The Reasons I Join in No Society in My Freshman Year

Well, the direct reason that I am writing this article is that, I was denied admission into the QSCtech. Maybe some people will think that this is my resentful retaliation to the unfavourable destiny. However, on second thought, I realized that it’s a lot better for a freshman to join in no society than anything else.

Firstly, it’s unwise to devote much time in these societies. On the one hand, participating in activities organized by assorted societies can be very time-consuming. However, on the other hand, the school work is also very difficult to follow, thus demanding our energy and time intensely. In Zhejiang University, every freshman’s major is not fixed yet, and getting in an ideal department requires reasonably high marks. If we can’t dedicate our time and energy to learn well now, we’ll be remorseful the next year. In a word, the time in freshman year is so valuable that the loss of time owing to society activities is rather unworthy.

Secondly, joining in societies is not the only way to improve our skill in interpersonal relationships. In my opinion, most people join societies because of this. To be sure, societies usually provide plenty of opportunities of social association. Nonetheless, there are many alternatives to achieve that goal. For example, we can surf the online forums and take part in our interested topics from a vast of resources. Step by step, we will make many good friends with the same hobbies in private rather than through social activities. Sometimes, this is a much more dependable approach to make true friends. Look, all roads lead to Rome. So don’t stick to societies insistently, do we?

Thirdly, joining in societies at such an early time is not fruitful, maybe. There’s no denying that one can really develop the abilities of administration, organization, cooperation, etc. However, the prerequisite for all the above is abundant knowledge and extensive experience. This is exactly what a freshman is void of. So it’s better to make adequate preparation rather than take action in a haste, in my view.

On the whole, I prefer joining in no society in my freshman year, studying hard to get high marks, and preparing well to make real contribution to QSCtech later, and wining a bright future in the end.
